The Mercedes Sprinter is a vehicle built by Daimler AG as a van, chassis cab, minibus and pickup truck. Previously the Sprinter model has been sold under the Mercedes, Dodge, Freightliner, and Volkswagen nameplates. In the United States, it is built from complete-knock-down, (CKD), kits by Freightliner. They are now primarily marketed by Mercedes-Benz but rebadged and re-engined Sprinters are also sold by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles as the 'LT' and the 'Crafter'. The first generation of the Sprinter came on the market in 1995 as a replacement for the Mercedes 'TN' van. In the year of its release, 1995, it was voted the International Van of the Year. The second generation was introduced in 2006 and last on to the present day.
